As of 1 October 2006, identification is required for the purchase of any Montana birth or death certificate. A picture ID with a signature, such as a driver's license, is preferred. If a picture ID is unavailable, two forms of ID, such as a social security card or utility bill, are necessary. One MUST have a signature.

Clerk of the District Court fees as of 1 July, 2003: General copies, $1.00 per page for the first 10 pages, $.50 per page for each additional page; Certified copies, $2.00 per document; Copy of Marriage License, $5.00; Copy of Dissolution Decree, $10.00; Searches, $2.00 per name, per year up to 7 years, $1.00 per name each additional year.
