Dorothy Jean Eustice

From the Big Timber Pioneer, May 2-8, 2008:

Dorothy Jean Eustice, 74, died after suffering from a stroke at the Stillwater Community Hospital on April 28, 2008.

She was born the daughter of Clarence and Minnie (Schuyler) Phipps on June 23, 1933 in a converted box car in Reed Point, Montana. She attended school and spent her entire life in Reed Point.

Dorothy was a kind and giving soul and never turned away anyone in need. She gave to others even though she had little herself. She will be fondly remembered for her fun loving ways. All who knew her will have special stories and memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roger Phipps, her son Bernie Bohme, and her special friend Gene Woods. Dorothy is survived by her niece Ginger (Bill) Byntner of Las Vegas, NV, and her nephew Clarence (Lynn) Phipps of Reed Point, her faithful dog, Buffy, and her many, many friends in Reed Point and beyond.

Please join us for a celebration of her life at the Waterhole Saloon in Reed Point on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m. Donations may be made to the Reed Point Fire Department. As Dorothy would say, "Come on down, I'm buying."

Private interment will take place at the Reed Point Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com.

William "Bill" John Mayo

From the Big Timber Pioneer, June 6-12, 2008:

William "Bill" John Mayo, 89 of Reed Point, MT, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at his home.

He was born in Hardin, MT August 6, 1918, a son of Charles Parker Mayo and Edith Lettie Neely Mayo. He was educated in the Hardin area schools and ranched all his life in the Hardin, Billings, and Reed Point areas. He married Evelyn Fenton May 25, 1946 and she preceded him in death, September 11, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings and a great grandson, Hunter Simmons.

His favorite pastime was painting in all medias, sculpting and carving, and had a great love for his livestock. He was a lifetime member of the Moose.

Survivors include his children, William J. Mayo, Jr. (Leona), Kenneth E. Mayo (Lynda), Marian E. Cain (Bruce) and Tim L. R. Mayo (Tina), 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 30 at Smith Funeral Chapel - Columbus. Visitation will be one hour before services. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Columbus.

Berniece Ostrum
From the Big Timber Pioneer, August 8, 2008:
Berniece Ostrum of Big Timber passed away July 30, 2008 at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber. She was born Nov. 12, 1917 to Carl and Inga Bue on Work Creek, south of Reed Point. She married Alfred Ostrum on Oct. 7, 1938 in Bozeman, MT. Funeral services were Aug. 4, 2008 with burial at the Rosebud Cemetery in Absarokee.

Dorothy Langhus
From the Big Timber Pioneer, August 22, 2008:
Dorothy Langhus died August 18, 2008 in Big Timber. She was born January 7, 1918 to Carl and Ragnhild (Lende) Mysse in Reed Point. She married Samuel J. Langhus on November 13, 1942. A memorial service was held at Big Timber Lutheran Church on August 23, 2008.

Irene Elizbeth Kinney Barnum
From the Big Timber Pioneer, September 19, 2008:
Irene Barnum died on September 13, 2008 at Beartooth Manor in Columbus. She was born April 29, 1916 to Hard and Anna Kinney in Tilden, Nebraska. On March 18, 1936 she married Glen (Barney) Barnum at Yankton, South Dakota. A memorial service was held September 19, 2008 at the Evangelical Church in Reed Point.

Dorothy Y. Dempster
From the Big Timber Pioneer, October 3, 2008:
Dorothy Y. Dempster was born on Oct. 4, 1926 to Miles and Erna Eik. She graduated from Absarokee High School in 1944. She met her future husband, Bill Dempster, while in high school. She passed away on Sept. 11, 2008 at Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber. A memorial service was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Absarokee on Oct. 4, 2008.

John Bjorndal
From the Big Timber Pioneer, January 1, 2009:
John Bjorndal, 77, passed away December 28, 2008 in Billings, MT. He was born March 23, 1931 to Ella and Nels Bjorndal and was raised on Butcher Creek. At his request, his remains were cremated and there were no formal services.

Victoria Helen Carson Herkimer
From the Big Timber Pioneer, March 12, 2009:
Vicki Herkimer died on March 8, 2009. She was born on Nov. 13, 1937 to Wilbur and Helen (Heyman) Carson in Cincinnati, Ohio. She grew up in Grant's Pass, Ore. where she met and married Walt Haln. The couple had five children. They divorced and she met Gerald Herkimer. Vicki is survived by her children, two grandsons and one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and six stepchildren. Memorial services wereat the Reed Point High School gym on Friday, March 13, 2009.

Katherine Mary Sauter
From the Big Timber Pioneer, March 26, 2009:
Katherine Mary Sauter passed away Saturday, March 9 in Butte. She was born to Stephan and Magadelina in Queens, New York on June 30, 1914. She was the second of ten children. She married Jules DeKetele at Columbus in 1933. The couple had one daughter. She married Albert Sauter in Billings in September 1948. They raised their family in the Billings and Grey Cliff areas for many years. Katherine is survived by two sisters, two brothers, four daughters, 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 14 in the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings with internment at Sunset Memorial Park in Billings.

Alvin Gorr
From the Big Timber Pioneer, April 9, 2009:
Alvin Gorr, 85, of Bozeman passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009. He was born on Oct. 17, 1923 in Rapelje to Theodore and Emma Gorr. Alvin met Beatrice McComb and the two were married in California. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred Gorr, and sisters Frieda Koeneman and Elsie Palazzola. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Dahl Funeral Chapel.

Peggy Anne Todd
From the Big Timber Pioneer, June 4, 2009:
Peggy Anne Todd died May 19, 2009 at Neskwin Beach, Ore. She was born in Columbus, MT, the daughter of Don and Helen Todd. She attended Reed Point schools. She married Bruce Shaw and the couple had three children. She is survived by one son, one daughter, her mother, one sister, two brothers, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchilden. She was preceded in death by her father and step-father, Joe Miller, and son Ronald Shaw. There was a cremation and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Helen Bothman

From the Big Timber Pioneer, September 10, 2009:

Helen Bothman, 100, of Big Timber passed away September 5, 2009 at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber. She was born November 20, 1908 to Frank and Lou Anna Baker in Columbus, MT. She married Loyd Bothman on Juy 31, 1928. She is survived by four children, ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held on September 10, 2009 at Mountain View Cemetery in Columbus. Arrangements by Stenberg Funeral Home.
